William E. Plaskett was born December 28, 1866, and became the family’s man of deeds — literally: the county land books of the 1910s and ’20s are full of him. With his nephews he bought the 641-acre Westlake Ranch in 1916, sold Salinas lots for gold coin, traded quarter-sections along the Nacimiento, and in 1927 sold five hundred acres to the Piedmont Land & Cattle Company. He married Jessie Eunice Case; their daughter Violet’s story is among the family’s saddest. He died April 28, 1952.
