Leonidas Hamlin Plaskett — ‘Lonnie’ — was born March 29, 1848, in Iowa, and crossed Panama as a small boy in 1852. On the coast he became the family’s miner-in-chief of the Los Burros district: the Plaskett Bros. Mining Company’s claims — the Ocean View, the Lilac, and the Blackberry on Plaskett Ridge — passed to L.M. Plaskett in 1912, and the family credited those workings with close to $100,000 in gold. He died June 21, 1918.
