John D. Cruikshank
John D. Cruikshank was the cousin of pioneer miner William D. “Willey” Cruikshank.
MARRIAGE: Married Augusta Stringle, who had previously been engaged to his cousin Willey. Augusta had accepted Willey’s engagement and $500 for her trousseau, then “fled to Portland to marry a girlhood sweetheart.” She later returned and married John.
LATER LIFE: Was Willey’s sole remaining relative at the time of his death. Had not seen Willey “for years” when Willey’s remains were found in 1943.
