Emily Cruikshank

Emily Cruikshank was the sister of pioneer miner William D. “Willey” Cruikshank.

EARLY LIFE: Daughter of William Cruikshank Sr. and his wife. Moved with her family from Calaveras County to Villa Creek on the Big Sur coast in the early 1870s.

JOLON CONNECTIONS: Spent a great deal of her time in Jolon with her friend Oda Butterfield, who later married Ed Dutton.

LATER LIFE: Moved to Alameda where she spent the rest of her life. Was living there when her brother Willey learned that his fiancée Alice Dutton had jilted him.
