Boat Day — the Film

Bill "Bull Plaskett" Alderson took the family's hundred-year-old Boat Day photographs — faded, cracked black-and-whites — colorized and restored them, then went to Plaskett Rock and filmed the same water where it happened. The schooner, the surf boat, and the hog riding the landing cable are composited into the living sea; the crowd on the bluff, in their Sunday best around the wire-chute derrick, are his own relatives. This is what Boat Day looked like: the holiday that outshone Christmas.

Sand Dollar Beach
