William Plaskett and Son Joseph Drown on Hunting Trip

William Plaskett Jr. and his son Joseph set out on a hunting trip in 1796. Neither came home.

William Plaskett Jr. and his son Joseph both drowned while on a hunting trip at the mouth of “Big Indian” creek before 27 October 1796. The bond to administer William Plaskett’s estate was presented by administratrix Elizabeth Plaskett, widow, with Captain Benjamin Davis and David Prince as securities.

This left Elizabeth a widow with several young children on the frontier. She later moved to Clark County, Indiana, and was living with her son when, on 9 September 1812, he wrote in a letter to John Armstrong that “Mother sends respects to Mrs. Armstrong.” She is reportedly buried in the Kelly family cemetery, now known as the Ross Cemetery in Clark County.
