Willey Cruikshank Skeleton Found After Six Years
Willey Cruikshank walked out of the New York Mine in 1937. His bones were found six years later.
In November 1937, Willey Cruikshank started from the New York Mine to spend a few days at the Bane place on the Nacimiento River. He was never heard from again. Search parties combed the area but found no trace. In 1943, soldiers making a jeep road through the mountains found Willeys bones. His hat and wallet lay close by with 62 cents inside. A fortune teller had once told him he would be killed by a horse, so he always walked and never rode one.
