Too Thickly Settled
When neighbors appeared on the San Joaquin horizon, William Lucas decided it was time to find emptier country.
After obtaining a homestead in Fresno County near Buchanan (now Chowchilla), William Lucas Plaskett felt the San Joaquin country was becoming ‘too thickly settled.’ This prompted the family’s move to the more remote Pacific Valley on the Big Sur coast in 1869.
