The Soapstone Fireplace Still Visible
Where William Lucas built his first cabin in 1869, campers now pitch tents — and his soapstone hearth is still there.
William Lucas Plaskett’s first home was built on the banks of Plaskett Creek, now the site of Plaskett Creek Campgrounds. The Pacific Valley School is near the home site.
The soapstone fireplace is still visible - a lasting testament to the family’s presence in the valley. The Plaskett men were skilled carpenters and cabinet makers. Their homes and furniture were all hand made.
