The Kings River mine paid handsomely — and financed the venture that lost it all.

William Lucas Plaskett moved to Mariposa County to build a quartz mill and mined profitably in the Sycamore branch of the Kings River. However, he put the money from this successful venture into a copper mine that eventually failed.
