The Jolon Indians - Joe and Dave Moro
Joe and Dave Moro of Chalk Peak worked the Sands sawmill for ten years — two of the last Jolon Indians.
Two Jolon Indians, Joe and Dave Moro, lived nearby and worked for the Sands saw mill for the ten years that the Sands owned it. The two Indian brothers lived near Chalk Peak. Their two sisters, Julana and Fidele, helped Mabel’s mother Lydia with her housework.
Mabel became good friends with one of Julana or Fidele’s daughters named Regina. Together Regina and Mabel would explore the property or play with the livestock.
When Ed Sands sold the land, he sold it to Joe and Dave Moro at a low price - recognizing their years of loyal service.
Henry Rich (Mabel’s uncle) later married a Jolon Indian woman.
