Quilting Bees, Barn Raisings, and Pioneer Cooperation
Quilting bees, threshing bees, barn raisings: on the coast, no one was paid and nothing was left undone.
Pioneer undertakings included quilting bees, threshing-bees, barn raisings, and rodeos (after the Mexican plan). Pioneers were cooperative and helpful without cash prices figuring at all. These occasions were festive social gatherings where they feasted, worked, and visited together. Everyone in a community helped if anyone was ill.
