Lopez Family Tragedy - Four Deaths from Consumption

Consumption came to the Lopez house by the sea and took four of them, one after another.

Manuel Lopez came straight from Mexico in about 1870 and built a house close to the sea just south of Lopez Point on a flat that had once been an Indian camp. When the older boys contracted serious colds, they blamed the dampness and moved to higher altitude. In spite of this precaution, three of the boys and one girl died of lung trouble within a short space of time. The old graveyard at the Boronda place showed four new graves marked with wooden crosses with the names of Pedro, Luciano, Nicholas and Perfidia.
