Evans Family Voyage on Sierra Nevada
The Evans family came down the coast on a side-wheeler with their cattle penned above the paddle wheel.
The Evans family sailed from San Francisco on the side-wheeler Sierra Nevada to start their new life on the coast. They carried cattle in the housing above the paddle wheel. After two days of rough weather, Mrs. Pfeiffer got her children ashore in Monterey Bay, seasick and miserable, then traveled 40 miles over Indian trails to Sycamore Canyon.
