Ed and Lawson Plaskett - Gold Mining Dreams
Ed and Lawson Plaskett chased the rumor every coast man heard — that gold waited in the home hills.
Lawson and Ed Plaskett both tried gold mining in the Santa Lucia Mountains. There were many rumors, mostly unfounded dreams, that in the hills—or even on Plaskett land—there was great unfound wealth in gold. Lawson had found a great deal of gold recently and was spending money extravagantly. Ed and Lawson, when drinking, sometimes hinted they were on the verge of being rich men from finding local gold or jade. Those rumors may have influenced Ed Sands decision to allow his daughter Mabel to marry Ed Plaskett.
