Curnell Mansfield Built 4,000 Acre Cattle Empire

West by wagon at nine, Curnell Mansfield built a cattle empire of four thousand acres.

Curnell H. Mansfield was born in Ohio in 1834 and came West by wagon train at age nine. An extremely ambitious young man, he started raising cattle near Bryson with partner Jim Prewitt. In 1864 they moved to Pacific Valley. After buying out Prewitt in 1884, Mansfield built up a great cattle business running as high as 700 head on his range, acquiring nearly 4,000 acres between the Pacific Ocean and the summit of the mountain.
