Conrad Kotts at the Battle of Trenton

Conrad Kotts married two Plaskett sisters — and stood at Trenton when Washington took it.

Conrad Kotts, who married both Margaret and later Mary Plaskett (sisters, daughters of William Plaskett the immigrant), became an important figure in Trenton during the Revolutionary War period.

On December 26, 1776, during the Battle of Trenton, there is family tradition that Conrad Kotts or members of the Plaskett family were present when Washington crossed the Delaware on that famous Christmas night.

Conrad Kotts’ daughter was said to be about 16 years old by the time of the Battle of Trenton (born circa 1760).

In 1784, the New Jersey legislature passed a resolution empowering James Ewing, Moore Furman and Conrad Kotts, as commissioners, to procure a dwelling house for the President of Congress.
