Coast Road Opens - 1937
In 1937 the pavement finally reached the coast the Plasketts had settled 68 years earlier.
The Coast Road (Highway 1) opened in 1937, finally connecting the isolated Big Sur coast to the rest of California by paved road.
Edward and Mabel Plaskett had built a house on Jolon Road in 1926. After the Coast Road opened, Edward and Mabel moved back to the coast in late 1958 or early 1959. They lived in the old home while a new one was being built, which was completed in 1962.
Prior to this, they stayed in the cabin on Plaskett Ridge.
