From 1890 Byron Plaskett carried the mail from Jolon Road twice a week, rain or shine, with a string of up to ten horses.
In 1890, the first post office was established in Byron Plaskett’s home. Byron carried the mail from Jolon Road twice a week - rain or shine - with 4 to 10 horses carrying parcels, passengers and mail. He traveled the precarious mountain trail for fifteen years.
Locals said you could set your watch by the time he passed your place - his schedule was so regular.
Byron became paralyzed in 1908 and died on March 18, 1911. After that, the mail was only carried once a week.
