Building the Plaskett Creek Sawmill

First the sawmill on Plaskett Creek, then the cabins — the family carpentered its way through the first winter.

The Plasketts set up a sawmill at Plaskett Creek and built simple log cabins to survive the first winter. The Plaskett men were skilled carpenters and cabinet makers - all homes and furniture were hand-made. They used bear and squirrel oil for lubricating wagons and machinery, and made their own soap and lye.
