Building St. Lukes Church
Three Plaskett brothers built St. Luke's at Jolon in 1884 — and it still stands.
The old church at Jolon - St. Luke’s Episcopal Church - was built in 1884 by Reason Plaskett and his two brothers, Robert and Marion. Their brother-in-law, Allan McLean, had first suggested to Rev. J.S. McGowan that the Plaskett brothers be given the job of constructing the church.
Allan was married to Olivia Plaskett (daughter of pioneer William Lucas Plaskett). At that time, Allan was teaching school near Jolon. He went on to become the County Auditor.
The Gothic stained glass windows were carefully brought from England by a native Englishman named Alfred Smythe-Pigott, who married a local girl, Alice Dutton.
